BEST Growth Hub - If your business needs support with planning, funding, networking, scaleup, pre-start-ups & start-ups, upskilling, apprenticeships, growing, problem solving or adapting, the BEST Growth Hub can help.

South East Business Boost - The programme provides free support to start ups and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) within the South East Local Enterprise Partnership area so that they can expand.

LoCASE (Low Carbon Across South East) - The Low Carbon Across the South and East (LoCASE) programme is supported by the European Regional Development Fund to provide a free business support programme in the South and East.

TALE - This project supports SMEs in the Logistics sector to better understand and analyse their data to increase their efficiency.  It also helps them to understand cyber security and the implications on their data.  Specialist expertise is provided by the University of Essex and University of Kent.

I-Construct - ERDF funded project is open for business from Jan 2020 till Dec 2022.

Southend Adult Community College - Southend Adult Community College (SACC) are Southend Borough Council's provider of adult education and provides education and training to more than 2,000 learners. It has 3 centres in Southend: Southchurch, Belfairs and Westcliff (specialist). SACC is proactively involved with employers , care sector training and apprenticeship initiatives.

University of Essex Business Incubator - Located on the top floor of University of Essex Southend Campus’ Gateway Building, the Hub offers flexible office space and meeting rooms to new or growing start-ups. It offer includes business rates, energy costs, telephone & internet connection, staffed reception, limited free hire and discounted hire of meeting/conference facilities within the venue. Virtual tenancy is available.

The Hive Enterprise Centre - The Hive is the best connected enterprise centre in Essex. They provide start-ups and growing businesses all-inclusive serviced office accommodation and shared working space with state-of-the-art communication facilities, business support.  There are a wide range of high quality, flexible starter, scale-up and downsize workspaces with this prime city centre location in Southend.

Space282 - space282 was set up to be different, change with the times, give local people a space they want to work from. You no longer have to commute to London and other cities to have a modern workspace to be proud of. We have created a community, a place individuals come together to help and support each other.

Essex Chambers of Commerce - Essex Chambers is one of 52 regional Chambers accredited through the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), a not-for-profit membership organisation, attracting a wide range of businesses large and small.

Federation of Small Business (FSB) Essex - Established over 45 years ago to help members succeed in business, FSB are a non-profit making and non-party political organisation that’s led by its members, for its members.

Regulatory services - The team cover the following areas

Planning - The responsibilities of Planning include;

  • Producing a local plan: This is a framework for the future development of an area defining strategic policies, the framework for neighbourhood plans, land allocations, infrastructure requirements housing needs, requirements for safeguarding the environment, measures for adapting to climate change and so on.
  • Determining planning applications. Decisions about straight-forward applications will be made under powers delegated to planning officers. More significant or contentious applications will be decided by a planning committee, made up of local councillors.
  • Enforcement: Acting proportionately in response to suspected breaches of planning control.
  • Supporting neighbourhood planning.
  • Southend Planning Team offer pre-application planning advice

Procurement Team at Southend Borough Council - Procurement plays a key role in improving the public services, removing inefficiencies within the organisation and regenerating the town.

They advertise any opportunities over £25,000 on Contracts Finder, but to be aware of opportunities and respond to any tenders please register on SBC’s Procurement Portal.

The team is committed to using local suppliers wherever possible. Businesses are encouraged to get in touch to sign up to local supplier list.

They also delivery sessions on how to bid for Council contracts throughout the year.

Southend BID - Southend BID was formed in 2013 to act on behalf of Southend town centre and seafront businesses to ensure that they can make the most of their combined potential and remain ahead of the competition and, via a strong collaboration, raise the profile of Southend

Southend Association for VoluntarySector - SAVS is an independent charity known as a council for voluntary service or CVS, working behind the scenes to help local charities and community groups achieve their full potential. SAVS also delivering externally funded projects such as A Better Start Southend (ABSS) to support families of under 4s and expectant parents living in six of Southend’s most deprived Wards

Generosity bank - Generosity Bank is an online self-service platform that enables small businesses to connect with local professionals in their area who are willing to use their professional work-place skills to help out on a short term and one-off voluntary basis. All you have to do is register on the site, then create a Placement post with the details of the help you require and you’ll receive an email when a volunteer is interested.
