Details

Quintessentially Southend, it is the town's foreshore that many people instinctively think of as 'the local habitat'.

This site is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) because of the multitude of birds over-wintering in the area. Of particular note here are the dark-bellied brent geese, who travel from Russia to over-winter on Southend's 'sunshine coast', before heading back to Siberia to breed.

The foreshore is also home to a growing number of seals too, with as many as 30 of our flippered friends recorded off of Westcliff-on-Sea.
