London Southend Airport,

Our Visit the Vulcan Days are great days out for aircraft enthusiasts and the general public alike. The VRT Team will be on hand to give guided tours of Vulcan XL426 and for an additional fee you can climb inside the Vulcan’s cockpit.

Alongside XL426 will be the cockpit nose sections of aircraft that served with the Vulcan during its time with the RAF, including a Buccaneer jet fighter-bomber, a Jaguar strike aircraft, a Hunter jet attack aircraft and a vintage Chipmunk trainer.

Other displays include a rare WE177B nuclear bomb, carried by the Vulcan during its time with the RAF, as well as examples of the 1,000 lb high explosive bombs the Vulcan dropped on Port Stanley airfield during the 1982 Falklands Conflict.

Also on display will be the life raft which the Vulcan’s crew would have used had they had to bale out of the aircraft over the sea.

There will be much more to keep the whole family entertained: historic fire engines (including an iconic Green Goddess), classic cars from the 1960s and ‘70s, a face painting stall and military vehicles. Burger, hot dog, ice cream and doughnut stalls will make sure no one goes hungry and there will be a micro brewery in the hangar to keep mum and dad refreshed!

The VRT souvenir stand will be open selling a selection of Vulcan souvenirs, including Vulcan models, badges, patches, postcards, books, and much more.

Doors open at 10.00 a.m. with last admission at 4.00 p.m. The Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane fly past will take place just after 4.00 pm.

Admission and cockpit tickets will only be on sale ‘at the door’ – please note that there are no advance ticket sales.

Cockpit visits take place every 15 minutes and are done on a timed ticket basis, so there is no need to stand and queue. Space is limited so cockpit visit tickets are subject to availability. When they’re gone, they’re gone!

Limited free car parking will be available close to the Vulcan Hangar. Please follow the ‘Vulcan Open Day’ direction signs after entering the airport. If the Vulcan car park is full, visitors will need to park in the airport’s short stay car park (for which there is a charge) which is approximately 10 minutes walk from the Vulcan.

Visitors can arrive by bus or train. London Southend Airport station is approximately 10 minutes walk away and is served by frequent trains on the London Liverpool Street to Southend Victoria line. Turn left when leaving the station and follow the signs to the Vulcan.

Details of train times, local bus services and car parking charges can be found on the London Southend Airport website: www.southendairport.com
