The SBP newsletter for September 2019

Places are filling fast for the Southend Business Partnership Briefing on the 26th Sept from 8am - 10am @ The Forum. The event will be themed on #ConnectedAndSmart with presentations from some of our key logistics partners including: C2C, First Bus and CityFibre/Vodafone who will be presenting their plans for Southend to support the Southend 2050 ambitions. Connectivity impacts on businesses, residents and visitors and therefore the prosperity of the Borough, so this is a great opportunity to our some of our partners plans and how it could support your business. Ali Griffin, Chief Executive, Southend on Sea Borough Council will be presenting on Southend 2050 progress with particular reference to the #Connected&Smart agenda , with supporting presentations from Council Officers. Our events usually attract approx. 100 - 130 business representatives and we already have over 100 bookings, so it should be a great opportunity for networking with local business professionals as well as fact finding in our marketplace.

The Marketplace will include experts on grants, from the BEST Growth Team as well as business support; there will be representatives from Superfast Essex; Council's Business Rates Team who can help with what reliefs are available currently and they are also able to help with advice relating to specific properties and the rates due which can be important for businesses prior to purchase/lease; Regulatory Services will be available and can support on the requirements on businesses to ensure compliance; Forward Motion can provide business support to improve travel to work options saving both you and your employees money; the nearly formed Plasticity team will be providing information and support to businesses on how they can improve recycling and remove waste from businesses in a more sustainable manner which is an area of major importance to all of us; CityFibre/Vodafone will be attending to talk about their new service which will connect every home in the borough to full fibre gigabit broadband; there will also be information about business meeting space to rent; business services available; the new Airport Business Park, the Job Centre will be talking about "disability confident" and there is much, much more, so it is well worth a visit.

The Business keynote speakers will start promptly at 8.30am. However registration will begin from 7.30am, giving you an opportunity to network. The event will finish at 10.00am but there will be further opportunity to network.

In response to the growing importance and interest in social responsibility, the Southend Social Enterprise and Responsible Organisation will be hosting an event on 10 October @ Twenty One. There will be topical speeches and plenty of stalls, offering a great opportunity to like minded businesses and organisations to network and explore business opportunities. This event is not exclusively for social enterprises so please come and join us either as a visitor or exhibitor if this is a market you are interested in. Free to attend but booking is essential at: https://bit.ly/2KFunJB or email for more information At the request of many organisations, Southend Public Health team is working with the Workforce Development team to offer and open the following two training sessions to local businesses. The sessions are on 17 & 20 September 2019, 27 & 28 January 2020 (9am-5pm) at Tickfield Centre. South East Creative (SECCADS) Project is pleased to announce that its fully funded workshops and mentoring programme will be launching in the autumn at various location's across the South East region. On two consecutive Saturdays, a cohort of up to 20 creative businesses are able to participate in workshops on topics ranging from marketing and social media, pricing and pitching, to budgeting and intellectual property. On completion of these workshops, business will have access to up to three hours one-to-one mentoring with industry experts. Funded by the Department for Transport, ForwardMotion is now offering business and organisations in south Essex a free bicycle shelter which normally costs £2,900. Bike hangars are lockable shelters that provide secure, weatherproof storage for up to four bikes.  Havens Hospices, in partnership with Wild in Art, will create a trail of individually designed and beautifully created giant Hare sculptures which will showcase the wealth of artistic talent in the area whilst positively contributing to the economic, social and cultural life of the town. Businesses are invited to sponsor a Hare sculpture with a wealth of benefits such as: promoting your business or organisation, great PR and lots of opportunities for your brand to be seen via the official media partners and social media. There will be an "app" which can drive footfall and sales to your business. Finally, with the Brexit deadline approaching, East of England workshops titled "Get ready for Brexit" are running from 17 September to 23 October in various locations. These are practical sessions to help exporting businesses prepare for Brexit. The presentations are from 12:00 - 13:30, with a networking lunch after the session.
