Apprenticeship recruitment event success

February 2020

Local businesses met with potential apprentices at a recent event to provide information on the apprenticeships available and how to sign-up.

The Apprenticeship Fair, a free event led by the council’s skills team, was held at the Park Inn hotel on Wednesday 12 February, and saw 180 people attend to find out more information about getting an apprenticeship and which businesses recruit apprentices. The event saw stalls from local apprenticeship employers including IPECO, Holiday Inn Southend, Ashley Care and more.

In addition to this, attendees were able to hear from Amazing Apprenticeships, a national apprenticeship support service, providing information and myth busting for parents.

Cllr Anne Jones, cabinet member for children and learning, said: “Apprenticeships offer new starters the opportunity to learn new skills whilst earning, something that is proving increasingly popular amongst young adults and adults alike.

“Many people see apprenticeships as a great way of starting a career and events such as the Apprenticeship Fair gives potential apprentices and apprenticeship employers the opportunity to learn about possible opportunities, and also to share best practise as apprenticeship employers.”

The next Apprenticeship Fair event will be Wednesday 10 June 4pm – 6pm at the Park Inn hotel.
