Domestic abuse

Domestic abuse can take a number of different forms including:

  • Physical assault
  • Verbal assault
  • Threatening to hurt you or those around you
  • Controlling where you go and who you see.  

Living with domestic abuse can have a negative impact on you and how you live your life. However there is help out there from a number of national and local agencies. For more information, support and help please contact South Essex and Thurrock Domestic Abuse Partnership 

SOS Domestic Abuse Project

SOS Domestic Abuse Projects provides a drop-in service for women (01702 302333), children and families (01702 343868) currently experiencing domestic abuse or have in the past, with advice, emotional support and free counselling run by specialist trained staff and volunteers.

Southend Domestic Violence Abuse Support Services

Southend Domestic Violence Abuse Support Services offers help and advice to women, men and children who are victims of domestic abuse – 01702 291266 (9am – 5pm Monday to Friday and out of hours in an emergency)

Victim Support provides free, confidential, emotional and practical support for victims of crime. The community service will visit victims after a crime, and the witness service will support them through the court procedure – 0808 16 89 111 (MondayFriday 8am-8pm, confidential answer phone outside these hours) or visit their website


Freephone National Domestic Abuse Helpline run by Refuge

Women can call 0808 2000 247 for free at any time, day or night. The staff will offer confidential, non-judgemental information and support, please also visit their website

Men's Advice Line

Men can call 0808 8010 327 (Monday and Wednesday, 9am to 8pm, and Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 9am to 5pm) for non-judgemental information and support   please also visit their website
