SBC Careers and Skills Event

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council is holding a Careers and Skills event on the 4th July 2018. The event aims to promote careers and sectors across Southend and the surrounding areas.

The event will be at the Park Inn by Radisson Palace (SS 1 2AL) and will be split into 2 sessions, with different audiences for each session:

Session 1: 09:30-14:30 will be aimed at secondary school students (aged 11-14), to promote local Industrial sectors and inspire young people to progress throughout their careers and to open their eyes to opportunities.

Session 2: 15:30-19:00 will be open to all, but targeted at unemployed job seekers and career changers and parents, to promote employment and training options in the local area.

Between the 2 sessions, 14:30-15:30, will be an opportunity for networking and lunch for all stall holders and presenters, overlooking the Thames Estuary and Southend Pier.

The Opportunity

The event will have a market place for stall holders and a series of presentations/workshops.

The market place will take place in the Ballroom and will be an opportunity to engage with a large number of event delegates.

In separate syndicate rooms, there will be a series of presentations/workshops. The rooms sit a maximum of 30 delegates in each. This is an excellent opportunity to inform and inspire your potential future workforce within your organisation or sector. Presentations will be for 25 minutes and could include:

  • An overview of your business/organisation
  • Types of careers/jobs available in your workforce
  • Qualification requirements and entry points
  • Benefits of working for your organisation
  • What experience your organisation looks for on a CV/application form
  • An activity related to your organisation or job roles available

  • A recruitment activity
  • An activity related to the equipment or materials you use
  • An activity related to the skills needed for some of your roles, e.g. critical thinking, problem solving, maths in context, interpersonal skills, customer service skills, etc.

Each syndicate room will have resources for digital presentations, multimedia, and sound. Rooms can be set up to suit your presentation/workshop.
