  • Southend has been successful at securing £15m from the Housing Infrastructure Funding budget to start to develop the improved road network for Better Queensway. The award is the third largest single allocation of 134 awards made across the country, and is one of thirteen across the South East Local Enterprise Partnership (SELEP) area that will receive a share of more than £82m.

  • £5.5m of funding has been secured from the ERDF funding to support the Creative, Cultural and Digital sector in the South East. The project is led by Thurrock Council, with details to come.

  • The next Southend Business Briefing at the Park Inn Hotel on the 22nd March will see Andrew Lewis, Deputy Chief Executive at SBC providing an update on major projects and infrastructure in Southend, Mark Williams providing an insight into Industrial Metal Services (IMS), the largest structural steel stockholders and processors in the South East, about their journey and their plans for the future and Tim Jones from Lower Thames Crossing with an update about this national infrastructure project, their plans and the impact on road networks during the build stage.
  • As part of the Skills strategy, Southend Borough Council will be launching a new programme for Industry Champions on 9th March 2018, 9.30-11.30am. Industry Champions is an intermediary services to help facilitate interactions between employers, employees, schools and young people to better improve skills and employability in Southend.   • Southend has also been awarded the prestigious Purple flag for their night-time economy which recognises safe and well-managed night time economies.
